If you are finding yourself waking up at night, thoughts whirling around, then you are not alone. Tectonic shifts in the global business landscape, means that for many of us, regardless of whether we are employed, previously employed, running our own business, volunteering or a combination of all of the above are finding that what we previously thought was certain is no longer so. Many are still reeling from the impacts of this realisation, coming to terms with the fact that they may have to change direction. However, it is also true that this is a huge opportunity for many who were languishing in jobs or roles they hated but were persisting because "it paid the bills". In retrospect, it might be that the uncompromising jolt of COVID-19 may well have been a welcome wake up call, providing the time and the space to find the new call to arms. Finding your new purpose
The new reality is still opaque but there are certain truisms that will continue once we creep out of our lockdown lairs. First, you will always be better and committed to things you love doing. Secondly, understanding in detail where you are better than others will provide a shortcut to success. Thirdly, what the world needs in the future is almost certainly going to be different from what it wanted in the past. On top of these insights, what we don't know is whether there is a market for our renewed purpose and whether we can harness effectively our combined passions and skillsets - but that should be our aim. For the next few months or maybe longer, when we can start to plan our new futures through developing our new purpose. This process will require introspection - self analysis even - in understanding what makes us happy and what we excel at. It will require learning - understanding better what the world needs and then crafting our delivery. It will require adaptability from us and a willingness to change our approach to what the world wants, not what we have always done. So, does this leave with you with excitement or fear? If you wake up early tomorrow morning, this time, start the journey of reimagining your new purpose.
